Disabled? Handicapped?

It’s difficult to be “handicapped” or “disabled” or so labelled.
It’s easy to give in and to feel that you’re unable.
The sticker on your car or the card that’s in your purse,
It only says you’re different – nothing more and nothing worse.

We’re still the same old person, on the inside, deep down deep,
We’ve still the same desires, wishes, memories to keep,
We may have changed our outside look, our appearance or our style,
But all that’s coming out is what was hidden all the while.

By all the “tragic” happenings we’ve lived through and expressed,
We can use these opportunities to find our happiness,
For we all decide our attitude, our success in what we do,
By the way we think about it as we carry feeling through.

So, no matter what your history and no matter what your path,
We all search for our own truth in a smile and in a laugh,
And we all know when we’ve found it, when we’ve let go what’s held so tight,
And find within our inner selves, the stillness and the light.

So, let your inside out in the way you only can,
Release the inner woman or the man,
Be still when life requires it, be louder when you need,
And express the joy of living in your thought and in your deed.

The New Road

In the heat of battle won,
In the lull before the void,
At a time the world stands still,
A victory yet enjoyed.

When a soul stands lost, forlorn,
In mists of shadow lands,
With forearm limp and tired,
Sword bloodied in the hand.

You join in raging thunder,
Take silence by the hand
And change all those around you
By your presence and your stand.

You know what you must do,
You hear the voices tell,
You feel the swirl around,
As you await the mighty swell.

As battles are but brief,
For all the strength entailed,
And life keeps moving forward
Restoration thinly veiled.

So you wait in earth bound silence
For all to come to right
As the door stands bright before you
Then opens to the light.

You ride the wave that follows,
Full balanced in the night
And carry what you need
With all your strength and might.

The troubles of this life,
The needless details man creates,
Will fall away in brightness
As the energy awakes

And moves the planet forward
With those who wish to share,
Returning to a path long tread
The new road now appears.

Nightly Lifetime Battle

Sunlight slips through branches
As daytime passes through
Fades away silently
To twilight’s secret hue

Suddenly, it’s dark outside
Pitch back, devoid of light
Night has moved aggressively
Staking claim to all it’s right

Moon slides up horizon’s line
Sliding through the breach
Sending moonbeams streaking fast
Through all night’s claim to reach

Stars enjoin the battle
Twinkling all their might
An effort to show the night
Dark is but an absence of light

Does not exist of it’s own right
Has no claim to make
Without light to show the way
There is no dark to take

Incandescent Marks

Incandescent marks flow across the page,
Driving me now on to eternity’s sage,
Expressing deep the innermost me,
Displaying all there is to see,

Never having reached this far or this fast,
The end is now in sight at last,
Forgetting darkness, dispersing fright,
Moving onward direct to light.

The page before perpetually glows,
An inner light it only knows,
Reaching for the soul within,
Forgiving thinking, deeds and sin

Testament to fields of life,
Exploring planes, dimensions rife,
Changing states as needs require,
Soul evolving higher and higher,

Moving in, moving out,
Forever listening for the shout
Of heavens call from source divine
To bring me home this heart of mine.

Moments Daze

Grey cold light of day
Creeps across the land,
Something moves out there
Something out of hand.

It sucks in all the light,
A black hole swallowing deep,
So many lives it takes,
So much to hold and keep.

Light tries hard, recovering ground,
Dark reacts fast with it’s display,
And moving fast across the land,
Destroys, devours all in it’s way.

Good people stand, defying curse,
Watching home and hearth dispersed,
Run to save their loved ones close,
As light gives way to something worse.

Destruction lies behind the thing,
Wood now scattered, bricks and tin,
Lives in ruin, comunities torn,
Everything wasted, where to begin?

Torrential rain, winds ablaze,
Tornado running, lightning haze,
Thunder roaring, air devoured,
Life now changed in moments daze.

In Tribute To Nelson Mandela

On the eve of the 5th South African elections since 1994, I offer the poem I wrote on the day we
were told Nelson Mandela was pronounced dead. May our new leaders, whoever they may be, heed the song…

On a day when the world cries, the heavens sing,
On this day when we feel the loss, the heavens praise their gain,
On the day Madiba breathed his last, his soul sings in the freedom of the heavens,
And his song echoes on and on.

Through the halls of time his presence has shone and his words rang,
In the hearts of man their meanings sank in and resonated,
All were changed by his being, all are changed by his touch,
From rural to great he remained a servant to the greater good, a carrier of light.

His time has come, shedding the soul’s shell he steps forward and onward,
Forever a leader, forever a light, forever a beacon to guide those who wish to be guided,

And those who stay behind can choose,
Follow where the great man led,
Practice his ways of being,
Light our world with love and compassion,
Be guided by his light,

Or take your road of selfish gathering and reap what you now sow.
The circle of life is forever flowing.
What we each put in comes around again to serve us.
Put in light and love, place others needs before your own and this comes back to you a thousand fold,
But put yourself above all others and all that returns to you is you…..alone….
Wondering why and crying in the darkness and the night – Why have you been forsaken?

Is this not just the circle?
As you forsake others, so you, yourself, are forsaken?
Surround yourself with just you and that is all there is…just you…for eternity.
Share your energy and light and love and you become a part of it all, joining the energy of all that is…for eternity.

Take the example the great man has given us, heed his life and being,
Follow his way, in your way,
Put more in than you take,
Give more than you need,
Place the needs of others before your own,
Join Madiba’s song,
Live his legacy,
Grow his vision,
Add value to those around you that their life becomes richer in ways that cannot be measured
But can be counted upon and can mean more than can be counted,
Rise up sons and daughters of Africa,
Ride the tide of people centered living and build the nation Madiba saw,
The Rainbow Nation of life, love, understanding, giving and sharing,
Be greater than you are or think you can be,
And so it will be.

What greater tribute could we offer…

Nights shady, shades of night,
Darkly lit, shining bright,
Moon of shadows, sun of light,
Opposites attract so tight.

Sweeping angry, moving fast,
Slowly dragging, forgiving past,
Wonder not what does it mean,
Follow still the way unseen.

Plus and minus mean no more
Than all that you between them store,
Accept your new day, clearly lit,
Turn down the dark path, bit by bit.

The Physical Revoked – NaPoWriMo Day 17

Days fly by on nightly wings,
Drifting time, darker things,
Vibrant light on sleepy tides,
Takes away all need to hide,
Blows the darkness from this coil,
Returns the carbon dust to soil,
Rescinding reason, physical extinct,
Returning all to light succinct.

Sing with Purpose – NaPoWriMo Day 16

People came and sang with me,
Voices heightened, voices free,
Songs of hope and songs of praise,
Songs that touched the soul amazed.

They came in groups, they came alone,
Some came with wings and some with stone,
But all came breathing hard and fast,
Waiting for their note to last.

To reach on high for heights divine,
To take them far, with hearts in line,
Find places pure, where souls are free,
To follow their eternity.

Joining others, sharing depth,
In shady courts with guileless breath,
Meeting those who speak their truth,
In language strong and full of youth.

For all there know to be their best,
To shine and reach for light so blessed,
You listen for the echo deep,
Of resonating sound and reap

Tones so pure, beyond our ken,
Music made for souls of men,
Feel their purpose, know their way,
Guiding strong through every day.

Light and laughter, love perplexed,
Each moment shared endures the next,
To rise above small, petty cares,
And take the chance that’s offered there.

Yes! We will!

Minstrel Paths – NaPoWriMo Day 10

Then wand’ring minstrels came to me,
Fleet of foot and fancy free,
Took my breath, my life, my way,
Stole my lady far that day.

Sang and danced and all made merry,
Drank the wine and drained the sherry,
Delved beneath my steadfast way,
Shook foundations, made pillars sway.

Long held beliefs toppled through their sieve,
Ways of living disrupt they did,
Held me down, yet let me go,
Wrapped me in their way, their show.

Freed me from my lifelong chains,
Took the binds and cut the reins,
Freedom burst upon my soul,
All light and love and Go! Go! Go!

So moving with them at their pace,
Accepting that there is no race,
Flowing with the streams of light,
Into moments shining bright.

Finding new paths opening up,
Meandering trails with buttercup,
All leading home with choices rife,
Returning us to the source of life.

Collecting all experience gathered,
Refining essence, purity balanced,
Light and love surrounding all,
Please release your perceptions tall.

Step into the new found day,
Different, each, their special way,
To take us home, our tales to tell,
In one big swirl our history gel.
