PhoenixFire_728x210a

More Than a Fish by Natalie Rivener

When Myhrrl runs away from her arranged marriage and (sort of) into Eldvin’s arms, he can almost ignore the fact that they have been captured by pirates. Maybe this fisher boy is destined for more than gutting fish after all.

Layers of Darkness by Ann-Elize de Ridder

Growing up with tales of great warriors taught Eveline one thing: When things get tough, a true knight will not ride off into the sunset with you. A true knight will stand by your side through the darkness.

The Kobold Who Breathed Fire by Richard T Wheeler

The Eldkin told Kobold Nix that he’s to become a snatcher. He, however, is set on becoming a mysterious flametongue to impress enigmatic she-kobold Shi’zine. Nix’s a little greedy thing. Too bad kobolds define greediness as a four-letter yip.

Dragon’s Breath by Rob McShane

A dragon without fire? When Warheart is called to lead his house to war, he can hide the loss of his dragon’s breath no longer. Will he find his strength or is he doomed to fail and burn?

Radiance by Carmen Dominique Taxer

For six decades, Ka-Jyn has sworn to protect the people of Disara from pain and disease. But now, succumbing to the ravages of age, she must defy the laws of nature and seek help from an old friend.

The Pirate Who Played with Fire by Ryhen E Knight

When magical fire and a drunk pirate collide, things go south and it is up to Tom and Elyan to set aside their wedding plans to rescue the situation. And maybe a cat.

Ancient Ashes by Minki Pool

Dell, a troublemaking heiress, is sent on an archaeological expedition to unearth an ancient religious relic. When it becomes clear that the relic has devastating secrets of its own, she must choose between betraying her family, or betraying everything she has come to believe in.

What Remains by Vittorio Leonardi

“It’s amazing what you’ll agree to when you’re on fire.”

Cole has been haunted by his father’s words since the old man’s death. On the dark side of the moon, he’ll come closer to understanding them than he can imagine.

Crustacean Dreams

The Crab Nebula

****

You fantasize in crustacean webs,
Sand tumbling as tide turns,
Webs washed willy-nilly
Across the expanse of a Universe.

I dream of crab,
Scuttling sideways
To some imagined crustacean heaven,
Popping eyes, clicking pincers,
Grabbing toes,
All in an effort to take, hold, control.

But it never is,
Never was,
Never will be.

Life is too full for that.

A Temporary Life

Time it spun away from me
Reaching out, it flew right past
Far from my range and out of grasp
A fantasy of existence passed

Interesting to see anew
A whole world in a shell
Tumbling, turning on itself
Seeing nothing outside it’s spell

Eternal lifetime spent outside
Does nothing to prepare
For once we’re drawn inside
Our souls are ravaged and stripped bare

Like children in a new world
We search for sense and meaning
The Universe, like parents
Can but watch us roil in our demeaning

Then when we step outside
Return to paths long trod
The Universe embraces us
The all-encompassing God

Experiences gathered all as one
Lifetimes put as gain
For spiritual development
Rolls on and on again

‘Time’ spent inside this capsule
Is but a blink of eye
For lifetime in Eternity
Goes far beyond you and I

What Happens On That Day

The whole world is a fantasy,
We all live in our head,
So what is going to happen
When we’re buried and we’re dead?

Will life come in between us?
Will it take now what it couldn’t then?
Will it fill the void with living?
Will things carry on the same?

I have delved into the psyche,
Into the now and lands beyond.
I have tried to help the living,
To put right what just felt wrong.

Yet, after all this effort,
All this trying to find a way,
I am no closer to a clue
Of what will happen on that day.

Will Angels come a-calling?
Seraphims and light divine?
Or do I sink into a world of fire
A life of hell that’s mine?

Do my thoughts go on ahead?
Create a place for me to be?
Or will I see the greater plan
The one for you and me?

As I delve and hunt for answers,
The mystery deepens fast,
The only thing I think I see,
Is that thoughts of now will last,

Drift off into infinity,
Where the Lords of All await,
And probably will catch me
On that day I finally awake.

So, what else can we do,
But take each moment on the brow?
Not worry about the future
But live it in the now.

Tomorrow’ll be here soon enough,
Probably before we know,
And if on that day I have lived my full,
Well, then, it’s time to go.

And who knows now where to?
I’ve tried and failed at that,
So, I’ll simply take the journey,
Step up tall and straight to bat.

Whatever ball comes at me,
I will deal with it at that time,
As the sun comes up this morning,
Let’s go see where we can shine.
